Here comes the sun or so some say

I went to bed around 2 or so, yet woke up at 6:32. I could not fall back to sleep. I watched Battle Star Galactica. I read. I somehow made weak french press & did my dishes. I went to eat yogurt but found out I am out of granola. I thought I just bought granola. I have not eaten. I have not gone back to sleep. I fretted over losing my fourth class, which is the only class I was looking forward to. Spent hours crafting the perfect syllabus & making a packet containing poems by Gingsberg and Reyes, as well as, short stories by Barthelme, Wong & Borges. I will read my packet and pretend I am teaching. No I will shower, do laundry, clean my room, buy tickets for the Crystal Stilts show (assuming it is not sold-out) and walk to St. Mark's Bookstore. Or maybe I'll fall back asleep and dream of doing all of these things, or,,,

We put our peaches where they had to go

One of the best feelings is finding out you don't have to teach on a day you thought you had to teach- in other words, no Staten Island Ferry for me on Friday.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Yesterday I had to do cross-exam-grading. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but definitely happy to be through with it.

Right before I left yesterday I stopped at a bench in the hallway to make a call. As I was on the phone a student passed by me and smiled. Then she said I was "cute." This was unexpected so I said nothing. She laughed and walked away (slowly). I thought maybe it was a joke, but I didn't see anyone else around, as yesterday the school was pretty empty except for evening students who had finals during the day.
Weird. I was seriously rocking some corny, boring, black, teacher pants and need a haircut....
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I recently watched the French film, Elevator to the Gallows (1957) and I'm thinking about seeing Tell No One. Has anyone seen it?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This week is the final Word of Mouth of 2008. I'll post details tomorrow. I also have a friend's bday party. Then holiday parties on Friday and Saturday night. Hopefully I'll get my haircut on Sunday.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Today, I received an unexpected text declaring love for a particular poem I wrote. That was sweet and made my day!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I'm eating Tempting Trail Mix from Trader Joes, ever have it? I recommend it. Tonight I think I'm making gnocchi with mushrooms, carmelised onions (sauteed if I get impatient), fresh salted tomatoes, black olives, and arugula in a cream sauce. I'll have to make it soon, before I lose motivation.

TooSoonTooSoon

Looks like I posted the Staten Island Ferry image a little too soon. The class I was offered was pulled due to low registration & with me being in Queens 3 days a week it was too difficult to find another class to fit my schedule.

Time for Plan B... remind me, what was Plan B again?

I'll be in jersey (not my favorite place) visiting my parents for a few days so I'll be without internet. In other words lots of reading, dvd & Olympic watching. Speaking of which I thought China was going to beat Spain in basketball... I have the feeling that if Yi could play consistent mediocre defense China would have gotten a huge upset win.

Damn underdogs I was pulling for you!

Since it's unlikely I'll post again until next week, I figured I'd leave y'all with a poem. I just finished reading Alex Lemon's Hallelujah Blackout.

And No More May I Be

So this is calamity: calendula-
oiled hands cupping a mouth

that sings through the caving-
away thunderlight as the weeks

keep swinging by--house finches
shivering groundward in the catgut

blight. Black boughs absent of any
living weights. In the rain a man

ducks into his coat to light a smoke.
The park bitter with echoing space.

The park freezing. In the rain a man
ducks into his coat like the split-

ribbed chest of a dead horse
swallowing a wet-cheeked boy.

Benches slick red. Benches freezing.
In the rain a soaked man

watching the rain. In the rain
my hands pink hands numb

in the rain. Beneath the skin
a humming is. Geese wreathed

in their own winter-coming
breath. Skinhulled. Taut

skin bustling. Bottle caps old
buttons half-buried in the dirt.

You Must Be This Tall Before Riding This Ride

Tonight is the first night I've had internet at the apartment in almost 2 wks.  So what have I've been doing with my nights, you ask?  Well making visual poetry of course!  On this funhouse ride Sandy has no idea I'm about to bite off her head

Blame it on Ben Lerner's Angle of Yaw but I'm feeling downright violent.  Quick someone spread the word- poetry is more corruptible than porn!

Damn straight yo! if you made it this far into the ride and haven't recited one single Ashbery line we will haunt you until you swear David Lynch's movies are nuthin' but Disney.

Did you punk out?  Me, Sandy, and Tara aka N.o.t.o.r.i.o.u.s. C.h.o.i., ECK (East Coast Kid) and Deep Disco are the new kids on da block- hanging tough.

Friday Morning Snippets

Last night I saw J.Mae Barizo play piano as part of a piano/tuba chamber music performance. 'Twas amazing- rarely does this happen to me but I was left a bit transfixed. But music (like painting) has a way of tapping into emotions where words fail or too concisely narrarate. If you get a chance to see her play just do it-- to appropriate a corporate slogan/mantra/lifestyle/cultural directive... or is it a sympton ala Zizek via Marx's Commodity Fetish?

I'ts snowing.

I often don't look back longingly on being a kid-- but today I could be young again-- today I could use a snow day.

Very few people are at work today. Que up Raidohead's No Surprises

I've eaten an everything bagel. I really wanted to snazz it up aka Pacific Northwest style: tofutti, sprouts, cucumbers, & tomatoe.

Instead: low-grade cream cheese & cheap coffee.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I'm going to pack this weekend, work on some contest submissions, & challenge my ghost(s) to a snowball fight.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I might get another bagel.
I might eat a kiwi.
I might read a poem.
I might just stare out the window and watch the flurries fall.
