Claire Becker is the author of the poetry collection Where We Think It Should Go (Octopus Books) and the chapbooks Untoward, Get You , Young Adult, We Know in 2010, We Survive, and The Werld. She co-edits the journal RealPoetik, teaches high school students at the California School for the Blind and lives in San Francisco. This is her first time reading in New York.




Jason Bredle is the author of three books and three chapbooks, most recently Smiles of the Unstoppable and The Book of Evil. He lives in Chicago.



Cynthia Arrieu-King is an assistant professor of creative writing at Stockton College. Her book, People are Tiny in Paintings of China, came out in the fall of 2010 from Octopus Books. Her poems are forthcoming in Boston Review, Saltgrass, and Forklift, Ohio.




Nate Pritts is the author of four books of poems – most recently Big Bright Sun(BlazeVOX) & The Wonderfull Yeare (Cooper Dillon Books). His fifth, Sweet Nothing, is forthcoming from Lowbrow Press in late 2011. His poetry has appeared in journals such as The Southern Review, Black Warrior Review, Columbia Poetry Review & Forklift, Ohio among many others. His reviews & critical prose appear regularly in Rain Taxi Review of Books, Boston Review, Octopus & Coldfront. Nate has his MFA in Poetry from Warren Wilson College (‘00) & his PhD in British Romanticism from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette (‘03). He is the founder & principal editor of H_NGM_N & H_NGM_N BKS & lives in Syracuse, New York.



Bill Rasmovicz is a graduate of the Vermont College MFA in Writing Program and Temple University School of Pharmacy. He has served as a workshop co-leader and literary excursion leader throughout Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Germany, England and Wales. His poems have appeared in Hotel Amerika, Nimrod, Mid-American Review, Third Coast, and other publications, and his first book, “The World in Place of Itself,” published by Alice James Books, was also the recipient of the New England Poetry Club’s Sheila Margaret Motton Prize. His current home is Brooklyn.




Paige Taggart’s poems were written on a bus through the Badlands, she’s an ex-continental-drifter. Her chapbook DIGITAL MACRAMÉ was recently released by Poor Claudia. My point with the entry was to show how this anxiety about translation comes out of an anxiety to maintain “mastery” – mastery over language (hierarchical, centripedal) and literature – for example Ron’s reductive model of “Quietism vs Post-Avant,” leading in a fiercely chronological “modernist” path from Pound to Objectivism to Ron himself.

As of 2011, Stain of Poetry will be directed by three brilliant new curators: the poets STEVEN KARL(me), ERIKA MOYA, and CHRISTIE ANN REYNOLDS. The Stain of Poetry founder Amy King & her co-director Ana Božičević — ie, we — will bow out to focus on our new books and on editing the soon-to-launch e-journal ESQUE.

Our incoming trio of curators will introduce themselves to you at POPSICKLE: A FESTIVAL OF LITERARY ARTS on July 24 & 25, where they will host the Stain portion of the readings, as well as at regularly scheduled Stain readings throughout the summer and fall. Don’t worry, we (Amy and Ana) will be around till the close of year, so there will be plenty of opportunity to raise glasses of sake lemonade together. CHRISTEN CLIFFORD is a writer and performer in New York. Her

She recently served as an interpreter in Tino Seghal's This Progress

Secret School is pleased to present Wheel In the Sky, a three-channel video installation by Hong-An Truong. Wheel In the Sky investigates the possibilities of media to bear witness to moments of trauma and moments of poetry when human memory fails. As the video unfolds, the artist questions her father about his interest in the band Journey, and his responses reveal a frustration and acute sensitivity to the loss of meaning in the translation from their native Vietnamese tongue into English and vice versa. The conversation also suggests what impact the years of colonization have had on his perception of Vietnam’s most treasured art form, the poem.

Secret School will collaborate with Hong-An Truong to create a text that reveals, complicates, and further conceals what is lost in translation, creating a liminal space out of what is inexpressible.

In Obscured Offerings, Richard Eagan presents two strains of his characteristic constructed paintings. The first employs "bursting" elements to suggest the decline of Coney Island's amusement beach, while the second presents variations on the "target" theme reminiscent of the live-ammunition shooting galleries on the streets of Coney. A founding director of the Coney Island Hysterical Society, Eagan is active in the struggle to preserve the zoning and character of Coney Island's world-famous amusement zone.

About 440 Gallery: Park Slope's only artist-run gallery, a jewel box space offering an alternative venue for Brooklyn artists. 440 Gallery seeks to present surprising, unexpected art to the community through exhibitions, talks, readings and events centered around direct contact with the artist. Tim Peterson lives in Brooklyn and writes poetry, all the while
seeking out other complexly gendered individuals for companionship and
connection, hungry for articulations of reading and being read as
voiced experiences hunting you like a bluejay. SINCE I MOVED IN (Gil
Ott Award, Chax Press) was published in 2007. Tim edits EOAGH: A
Journal of the Arts.

Adam Tobin owns and operates Unnameable Books, a new and used
bookstore in central Brooklyn. He is author of Ode to Pumpsie Green &
Stretch Phillips (horse less press, 2005) and editor of The Weekly
Weakling (forthcoming), a series of occasional letterpress pamphlets.
You may have seen his older work in EOAGH or Fence or other
publications, but he hasn't really written much since he opened the
bookstore. He promises, however, to read at this reading at least one
poem you've never seen before.

David Carillo lives in West Hartford with his wife and dog. He is
working on his MFA in Creative Nonfiction at the University of
Pittsburgh and teaches English at the University of Connecticut at
Waterbury. He has poems forthcoming in nanomajority.com.

Kate Broad has lived in India and Brazil and currently resides in
Brooklyn, where she is a doctoral student in English at the City
University of New York Graduate Center. She has poems in Freshwater,
The Wellesley Review, and forthcoming in Karamu, and has won several
writing awards, including one from the Academy of American Poets. Kate
is working on her first full-length manuscript, Hard to Swallow.
