Farrah Field’s first book of poems, Rising, won Four Way Books’ 2007 Levis Prize. Her poems have appeared in many publications and are forthcoming in Fou, Drunken Boat, and Mantis. Christie Ann Reynolds is the author of Supermachine's first chapbook, Revenge Poems. idiot heart, a previous chapbook, was the 2008 winner of The New School Chapbook Competition. She teaches writing at Hofstra University and is co-curator of the Stain of Poetry Reading Series.

Poets' Bios:
Craig Santos Perez, a native Chamoru from the Pacific Island of Guahan (Guam), is the co-founder of Achiote Press and author of two poetry books: from unincorporated territory [hacha] (Tinfish Press, 2008) and from unincorporated territory [saina] (Omnidawn Publishing, 2010). He received the Poets & Writers California Writer’s Exchange Award in 2010. He earned an MFA from the University of San Francisco and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Comparative Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley.
Jason Koo is the author of Man on Extremely Small Island, winner of the 2008 De Novo Poetry Prize (C&R Press, 2009). He was born in New York City and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. He earned his BA in English from Yale, his MFA in creative writing from the University of Houston and his PhD in English and creative writing from the University of Missouri-Columbia. The winner of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Vermont Studio Center, he has published his poetry and prose in numerous journals, including The Yale Review, North American Review and The Missouri Review. He teaches at Lehman College, where he serves as Director of Graduate Studies in English. He lives in Brooklyn.
Born in Istanbul to Iranian parents, Solmaz Sharif holds a BA in Sociology and Women of Color Writers from U.C. Berkeley and an MFA in poetry from New York University. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in jubilat, Diagram, Witness, and PBS’s Tehran Bureau. Between 2002-2006, Sharif studied and taught with June Jordan’s Poetry for the People. Mairéad Byrne emigrated from Ireland to the United States in 1994, for poetry. Her books include The Best of (What’s Left of) Heaven (Publishing Genius 2010), Talk Poetry (Miami University Press 2007), SOS Poetry (/ubu Editions 2007), and Nelson & The Huruburu Bird (Wild Honey Press 2003). Daniel Groves was born and raised in Narragansett, Rhode Island, and educated at Johns Hopkins University. His first book, The Lost Boys, was recently published as part of the VQR Series (University of Georgia Press). His poems have appeared in Paris Review, Yale Review, Poetry, and Best New Poets 2005. He is on staff at the Sewanee Writers’ Conference.
Stephanie Barber is a multi media artist who creates meticulously crafted, odd and imaginative films and videos as well as performance pieces which incorporate music, literature, video and anything she is thinking about. She has had numerous solo screenings of her film and video work including shows at MoMA and Anthology Film Archives (both in NYC), San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center, Chicago Filmmakers and The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. Her performances have been featured at the Baltimore Museum of Art, The Milwaukee Museum of Art, The Haggerty Museum of Art and galleries and artspaces around the world. Her book poems was published in 2006 by Bronze Skull Press and these here separated to see how they standing alone or the soundtrack to six films by stephanie barber, a book and DVD, was published in May 2008 by Publishing Genius. Included in this book is her experimental essay “the inversion, transcription, evening track and attractor” (the soundtrack for the video of the same name) which was recently nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
Andy Devine’s alphabetical fiction and essays have appeared in a variety of literary magazines, including New York Tyrant, Unsaid, Elimae, Everyday Genius, and Taint. In 2002, he was awarded the Riddley Walker Prize (for a work that ignores conventional rules of grammar and punctuation). In 2007, he published a chapbook, “As Day Same That the the Was Year” (Publishing Genius). In 2009, Andy Devine was awarded The Ivory-Billed Woodpecker Award (for fiction in the face of adversity). WORDS (2010, Publishing Genius) is his first book. Andy Devine Avenue — in Flagstaff, Arizona — is named after him.
Adam Robinson lives in Baltimore, where he runs Publishing Genius and plays guitar in Sweatpants, a rock band. His first book, Adam Robison and Other Poems, was just released by Narrow House. He writes for HTMLGIANT, the Internet literature magazine blog of the future.

Popsickle- A Festival of Literary Arts
Popsickle Literary Festival, July 24 & 25 – and an announcement!

As of 2011, Stain of Poetry will be directed by three brilliant new curators: the poets STEVEN KARL(me), ERIKA MOYA, and CHRISTIE ANN REYNOLDS. The Stain of Poetry founder Amy King & her co-director Ana Božičević — ie, we — will bow out to focus on our new books and on editing the soon-to-launch e-journal ESQUE.
Our incoming trio of curators will introduce themselves to you at POPSICKLE: A FESTIVAL OF LITERARY ARTS on July 24 & 25, where they will host the Stain portion of the readings, as well as at regularly scheduled Stain readings throughout the summer and fall. Don’t worry, we (Amy and Ana) will be around till the close of year, so there will be plenty of opportunity to raise glasses of sake lemonade together. We are so excited to welcome Steven, Erika & Christie Ann to Stain of Poetry!

Melissa Buzzeo teaches at St. John’s University, and has taught at Brown, Pratt, and The University of Iowa. She is the author of two perfect bound books (What Began Us, 2007 and Face, 2009), and three chapbooks. In addition, her work has been translated into both French and Catalan. From NY originally, she holds degrees from both Cornell University and The University of Iowa’s Writing Workshop.

Hugh Behm-Steinberg is the author of Shy Green Fields (No Tell Books) and Sorcery (Dusie Chapbook Kollektiv). He has appeared in numerous poetry anthologies, including Short Fuse: A World Anthology of Poetry, The Portable Boog Reader, Word Up: Spoken Word Poetry in Print, Verses That Hurt, Revival: Spoken Word from Lollapalooza, and Aloud: Voices from the Nuyorican Poets Café. Colby has performed his poetry on PBS, MTV, and Canada’s Much Music Network. He has produced many collaborative books and paintings with the artist David Lantow and was the lyricist and vocalist for the now-legendary New York band Drunken Boat.

Christie Ann Reynolds‘ manuscript, idiot heart was the 2009 winner of The New School Chapbook Competition. She has an MFA in Poetry, a BA in English and an MsEd in Secondary Education. CHRISTEN CLIFFORD is a writer and performer in New York. Her
nonfiction has appeared in Salon, Nerve, Huffington Post, Identity
Theory, Time Out New York Kids and Smith Magazine's Memoirville.

She recently served as an interpreter in Tino Seghal's This Progress
at The Guggenheim. She has been a mainstage storyteller at The Moth
and her solo performance has been shown at PS 122, Galapagos, and 45
Bleecker as well as the Oni Gallery and Grace Exhibition Space as part
of The Armory Show/SITE 2010. She can currently be seen as a performer

Ben Mirov, the finest of gentlemen & a wonderful poet is reading everywhere this month. I saw him read in a stairwell for AWP. Check out his blog for details & locations. Tonight he's reading with Sampson Starkwether. Speaking of Sampson, last night I was at Colin Cheney's book release party & someone thought my name was Sampson... RENATO ROSALDO started writing poetry in English and Spanish while
recovering from a stroke in 1996. His first book of poetry, Prayer to
Spider Woman/Rezo a la mujer araña, received an American Book Award
(2004). Individual poems have won the El Andar poetry contest (2000)
and the Many Mountains Moving poetry contest (2005). He teaches at New
York University. As an anthropologist, he is the author of Culture and
Truth and Ilongot Headhunting, 1883-1974.
ARACELIS GIRMAY is the author of the collage-based picture book,
changing, changing (Braziller, 2005) & the collection of poems, Teeth
(Curbstone, 2007). Her work has been published in Ploughshares,
Callaloo, The Massachusetts Review, & MiPoesias, among other journals.
She has been awarded a Jerome Foundation Travel & Writing grant & a
GLCA New Writers Award for Teeth. A Cave Canem Fellow, Girmay also
serves on the board of the Acentos Foundation.
JARED HOHL is from Iowa. His fiction has appeared in The Apocalypse
Reader, The Agriculture Reader, The Washington Square Review, and
Torpedo, a literary journal based in Melbourne, Australia.

I live in an X-ray
created years ago
by a boy named Ben Mirov.
If I peer through the tinfoil
and starlight that separates us
I can see him fletching
a piece of the gloaming
hopelessly failing calculus
plenty of broken tennis rackets
bridges of honey and Q-tips
gossamer diet of heartbreak and lamplight
dichotomy of flinch and thrush
tripping over his parachute
to deliver to himself
a map of 1998.

I arrived early and wanting an instantaneous self
A little plastic man you sprinkle water on
and boom. Grows.
Wanting the same of horizon, season, lover
I clicked my heels to sparks,
became an anonymous alphabet maker.
Rain came in isosceles triangles and saturated
my profuse hatred for numbers.
I wanted a numberless fiend
to find me attractive and plant little letter babies in my brain.
We would eat fireflies and illuminate the many virtues
of tango and wedding cake.
We would import crepuscular and octagon into everyday
language.
Diaries would bloom edible spores of mold.
Grass would grey with thoughts of shoes.
Our letter children would proudly become hostile
soup-shapes and enter people willingly.

He-He-Ha-Ha
The first "review" of my chapbook, State(s) of Flux is up on Goodreads. The person gave it 3 stars, which I think is pretty good since I know the reviewer couldn't have possibly read it. The thing is I sold about 6 at the Cakeshop reading & happen to know that new books haven't shipped yet. It's possible that this person read a copy from one of the six purchases of the book but since her profile has her living far away from the USA, again this is unlikely. I believe the first chapbook of mine to leave the states will happen in December when I send my friend, Nicole (in Hong Kong) a bunch of stuff I've been collecting for her over the past year or so so three stars & not being read-Ha, I love it!

This Week's Best of NYC/BK Readings
The 2008 New School Chapbook Award Series reading will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m., 66 W. 12th St., room 510. This is the culmination of the annual chapbook competition, open to all students who have completed their course work (three workshops, three literature seminars). Winners are selected by writers of national reputation who do not currently teach in the Graduate Writing Program. The award funds a 250-copy print run of the winning chapbook in each concentration, of which winners keep 50 copies. At the reading, winners will be introduced by the judges who selected their chapbook for publication. Readers include: Drew Haxby, Ghosts (fiction, selected by Lisa Shea), Beth Schwartzapfel, Tough as a Shoe (nonfiction, selected by Deborah Copaken Cogan), Christie Ann Reynolds, idiot heart (poetry, selected by Brenda Shaughnessy) and Caron A. Levis, Shall (writing for children, selected by Dan Elish). Please come out and celebrate with these program graduates, take home copies of their chapbooks and find out what it takes to write an award-winning chapbook!

Deming, Aaron Fagan, Steve Gehrke, Aracelis Girmay, Stuart
Greenhouse, Jason Koo, Philip Levine, Roddy Lumsden, Jynne Dilling
Martin, and Akilah Oliver.
Located on Fourth Avenue in downtown Brooklyn, near the
Atlantic/Pacific subway hub, Pacific Standard is a literary bar
serving up eighteen microbrews on tap and cask (including both West
Coast and local breweries), fine wines and liquors, and tasty snacks
like chips and salsa, and meat and cheese plates.
