Also, at AWP there will be copies of the collab chapbook by Veronica Wong & myself over at the Lame House table. Veronica's full-length from Coconut will also be for sale (I think).

Shortly, before AWP there will be a new edition of Sink Review. We have a new assistant poetry editor, Stephanie Willis. New things ahead for Sink!

Shortly after AWP, Veronica & I, along with Jackie Clark, B.C. Edwards and Amy Lawless will be reading on March 31st for an off-site reading in conjunction with the CUNY Chapbook Festival- location of the reading TBA.

I believe Veronica, Carter & I will read in Philly in either April or May.
Veronica and I will also read in DC in May. Details forthcoming.

A Tribute to Paul Violi (1944-2011)

Paul Violi was a distinguished poet and esteemed member of the New
School faculty. Violi was a man of great integrity, a dear friend to
many, a generous teacher, an inspiring poet. Widely admired by his
peers, he is regarded as the most consistently inventive of the
generation of poets inspired by Ashbery, Koch, and O’Hara. Violi
taught poetry workshops and literary seminars for many years in the New
School’s MFA and Riggio programs. His classes were popular and, in
some cases, life changing.

With Kate Angus, Paul Auster, Star Black, Donna Brook, Billy Collins,
Alex Crowley, Bob Hershon, Jennifer Michael Hecht, Mark Hillringhouse,

The end of July will be busy, but busy in a good way. The First Annual New York Poetry Festival will happen on July 30th and 31st. More info here.

On Saturday July 30th at 12:30 the Coldfront Magazine Crew will be reading poems. I'm super-psyched as we have never all read together before! I will read only a poem, but the others will read for longer.

At 2pm myself & Erika Moya will curate a special Stain of Poetry for the festival featuring Dustin Luke Nelson, Jillian Brall, and Niina Pollari. Don't miss it!

At 3pm I'll read a full set of poems for No,Dear (along with radsters Amy Lawless & Jen Hyde!)

Julia Cohen used to live in Brooklyn. I used to see Julia around. She's as rad as rad(ness) comes. Julia has a new book & she's reading at my tied-for-first, favorite reading series (In theory, I have to rep for Stain of Poetry, right?) Yardmeter. Yardmeter tends to be on Saturdays. In other words, Amy lives in Brooklyn. I see Amy around. I went to grad school with Amy. Amy's first book came out a long bit ago. Amy has new poems. Amy's new poems are damn damn good poems. Amy is also an excellent reader. Off the cuff, foul, funny, and a charm seducer. There is a reason why we call Lawless "Flawless." Amy is reading for SuperMachine. If you've read this blog before you know I likes me some SuperMachine.

Bio for the readers:

Robert Minhinnick's novel, Sea Holly (Seren) was shortlisted for the Royal Society of Literature's Ondaatje Prize (2008) in the UK. He has twice won the UK's Forward Prize for 'best individual poem' (1999, 2003). His latest book of poems is King Driftwood (Carcanet). He lives in Porthcawl, Wales, and is an advisor to the charity 'Sustainable Wales'.

An outspoken advocate for social justice, Breyten Breytenbach is a poet, novelist, memoirist, essayist, and visual artist. His paintings and drawings have been exhibited around the world. Born in South Africa, he emigrated to Paris in the late ‘60s and became deeply involved in the anti-Apartheid movement. In 1994 Breytenbach received the Alan Paton Award for Return to Paradise. He won the prestigious Hertzog Prize for Poetry for Papierblom in 1999, and again in 2008 for Die Windvanger (Windcatcher), for which he also received the University of Johannesburg Prize. Breytenbach is also the author of All One Horse, Mouroir, Notes from the Middle World, A Season in Paradise, Dog Heart, The Memory of Birds in Times of Revolution, Lady One, and Voice Over: a nomadic conversation with Mahmoud Darwish, among many others. His most recent releases are Intimate Stranger, just out from Archipelago Books, and Notes from the Middle World, just released from Haymarket Books.

Maya Pindyck's book of poems, Friend Among Stones, won the Many Voices Project Award and was published by New Rivers Press. She is also the author of the chapbook, Locket, Master, recipient of a Poetry Society of America Chapbook Fellowship (2006). Her work has been published in The Sycamore Review, Mississippi Review, Bellingham Review, and Ekleksographia, among others. Alongside writing poetry, Pindyck makes visual art and co-founded Project Voice, a growing compilation of personal abortion stories that aims to deflate the abortion stigma. She teaches in the New York City public school system.

Wow, this has felt like a long semester & since it's coming to a close, I've been spending my time grading papers & sleeping badly. Such as it is; such as it goes. So far I only have two classes for the summer so the hustle continues.

On Friday after teaching at College of Staten Island I headed over to Williamsburg to catch J.Mae Barizo's reading. Good stuff. Then I went to a going away party which also included readings by Amy Lawless & Alex Smith. Although I didn't stay out too late I still felt tired for all of Saturday. I managed to make it to the Whitney ISP, then have vegetable dumplings with friends, then head over to a belated bday party for Rich. After that I took the train over to Prospect Heights.

This morning I had a banana peanut-butter sandwich for the first time. I also had some mango. & a dark chocolate bar with mint and rosemary essence. I wandered through Chinatown & bought basil, brown beech mushrooms, garlic, an onion, & tomatoes. Tonight I'll make a pasta with cream sauce using the bought ingredients + a little bit of lemon rind. Or so I think. I actually don't feel like doing dishes. Or cooking. & then doing more dishes. Right now I'm eating salted plantain chips & trying to put off cooking until at least 9.
