Rauan Klassnik is interviewed about his first book. It's a good read and Rauan talks about meeting other poets while doing readings, etc which is cool 'cause that's exactly how I met Rauan. Black Ocean books donated some of their titles to a raffle charity which I won so I had read and raved about Holy Land before actually knowing Rauan. Just a reminder about the reading this Tuesday. Mathias and I will be moving to Denver the very next day, so I'd love to see you all one last time before we leave. As the guest editor of the new issue of Effing Magazine, I'll be going to the issue launch that Scott Pierce organized, on Tuesday June 30th. I really hope you can come because it will be a great reading: Ada Limon, Justin Marks, and Farrah Field. If that isn't enough enticement, there will also be free wine and cheese.

Reminder, Tonight, This

This film is playing tonight at IFC-- both the 7:45 & 9:45 screenings will have the director and Cornel West. Tixs for the 7:45 are still available at the box office only, and 9:45 at the box office, as well as, online. I saw Cornel West speak a long time ago at Reed College. It's definitely worth the inevitable line you'll stand in tonight. If you can't make it tonight it the movie will start playing tomorrow over at Cinema Village.

John Ebersole teaches at Temple University. His most recent work has appeared or is forthcoming in Western Humanities Review, Octopus Magazine, and Bateau.

Rauan Klassnik was born in South Africa and now lives in Mexico. His first book, Holy Land, was released from Black Ocean in 2008. His chapbook, Ringing, is forthcoming from Kitchen Press in early 2009 and a second chapbook, Dreaming, is due out in the summer from Scantily Clad Press. Rauan blogs actively at rauanklassnik.blogspot.com.

Dan Magers has poems published in the tiny and Red China Magazine, and his chapbook Exploitation Poems was published in 2007. He is a co-founder and editor of the online literary magazine Sink Review, and works in publishing. He lives in Brooklyn.

Sara Michas-Martin is a Former Wallace Stegner fellow and Jones Lecturer at Stanford. She recently joined the BFA low-residency faculty at Goddard College and lives in Brooklyn. Her work has been published or is forthcoming in APR, Bird Dog, Court Green, FIELD, Forklift, Ohio, and elsewhere.

Nut News & Two Interviews

You may have read her chapbook, Perfect Villagers, from Octopus Books (which is the last section of this book), but this is Sueyeun Juliette Lee's first full-length book & it's pretty damn good. I might have a review of this book forthcoming so for now all I'll say is that I picked as one of the best books for 2008 over on the No Tells blog & you can buy it here. Also the poet (my friend) Meghan Punschke designed the cover.

Speaking of Coconut, issue 14 is up & it contains some poets I can't wait to read such as Eileen Tabios, Graeme Bezanson (who I went to NS with, as well as, worked on LIT with ((he's still the poetry editor there)) and he's part of the Coldfront Crew, yet I haven't really read his poems), Susana Gardner (who edits Dusie press), and Rauan Klassnik.
