Last night I ate corn on the cob and plantain chips. Today my stomach hurts. Not sure if the two are related. I think I want bread. Chinatown, Little Itlay, Soho, Nolita kinda sucks when you want a bagel.

Today was the last Friday I could sleep in (until late December) so naturally at 8:15 there was a big-ass truck making the loudest noise over & over & over again. Displeasure. Yes, say it with me. Displeasure.

Who Rocks the Rock?

Last night I met up with Captain S & Lila at Minca Ramen Factory, then we walked over to the Mercury Lounge. En route to the Lounge, Lila & I stopped at a bodega to pick up some ginger tea. It was thick & medicinal smelling & it had pine nuts in it.

We stood in front of the venue drinking ginger tea with the wind whipping in our faces. I ran into Euni, who I almost exclusively run into only on the same three block stretch of Houston, unless I run into her at one of her sister's readings. After I chewed my last pine nut & swallowed the last of the liquid we proceeded indoors to catch Wavves.

The crowd was rather silent & dull, but Wavves brought the rock. Captain S mentioned that she suspected that the show they played in BK had a much better audience. I began thinking of bands that I have seen both in BK & NYC (Enon, Blonde Redhead, Asobi Seksu, Mono) & have to agree with S that the Brooklyn shows/crowds were so much better than the NYC shows. Have you noticed the same thing? What gives?

My the weather's gotten cold

I had a wind-breaker on when I left for work this morning, but now I need a coat. I'm sure the brisk walk from Chinatown to KGB (Lehman/Cummins) will warm/wake me up. Seriously, I went to bed early last night & I'm still tired. I watched some the Lakers vs. Rockets game- not a Lakers' fan & the Rockets didn't bring it.

Asobi Seksu were fun on Saturday.

I picked up Sueyeun Juliette Lee's book, that gorgeous feeling, on Friday and today Geoffrey Olsen's End Notebook, and Catherine Meng's Dokument arrived in the mail. I also picked up Sonic Youth: Goodbye Twentieth Century today from the library.

Joshua Beckman is the author of a number of books of poetry, most recently GENTLE READER!, a self-published collaboration with Anthony McCann and Matthew Rohrer. He lives in Seattle and Brooklyn.

Edmund Berrigan is the author of Disarming Matter (Owl Press, 1999) and Glad Stone Children (Farfalla, 2008), and is co-editor with Alice Notley and Anselm Berrigan of the Collected Poems of Ted Berrigan (University of California, 2005) and the forthcoming Selected Poems of Ted Berrigan (University of California, 2009). He is also a copy editor at Chemical Week Magazine.

Devin Johnston is the author of three books of poetry, the most recent of which is SourcesCreaturely will be published by Turtle Point Press in 2009. He co-directs Flood Editions, an independent publishing house, and teaches at Saint Louis University. (Turtle Point Press, 2008). A book of his essays entitled

Jeff Clark was born in southern California in 1971. He is the author of The Little Door Slides Back and Music and Suicide (both from FSG), as well as 2A, which he co-wrote wtih Geoffrey G. O'Brien. For 12 years he's made his living as a book designer, and currently runs a design studio called Quemadura. He lives in Ypsilanti, Michigan, with his partner, the poet Christine Hume, and their daughter Juna Hume Clark.

DJ Dolack's most recent work can be found in (or is forthcoming from) Octopus Magazine, Handsome, and Diode. He is a contributing editor at Eye For An Iris Press. His chapbook, The Sad Meal, is available through Black Ocean. He currently lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Katie Fowley received a BA in English from Macalester College in 2007. Her book reviews appear in Rain Taxi: Review of Books. She is a founding editor of Lightful Press, and she lives in Sunnyside, Queens.
